Tarot Style – The Hermit: Seeker Of Knowledge…

Megan Skinner explores the archetypes in Tarot through a stylish lens...

Since antiquity, the Tarot has presented images stimulating our imagination and inspiring our divinatory powers.

But how are these archetypes found in our everyday icons of style?

Megan Skinner is an internationally-known Tarot reader and astrologer, and each month, gives us a deeper look into the Tarot through the lens of pop-culture and fashion…

Card of The Month: The Hermit…

The Hermit Card From The Rider Waite Tarot Deck…

Virgo Season is the time when we shift form the outgoing, playful energies of Summer, into the more introspective, mindful vibrations of Fall.

The Hermit card, like it’s ruler Virgo, is a seeker of knowledge. The road to true wisdom is nary a frivolous journey, for it requires fortitude–the strength to seek answers from within, often from a place of solitude.

This is the “road less traveled” and is the journey of all great mystics throughout time!

Our Hermit style icon is the mystically fabulous Florence Welch, of Florence + The Machine.

Their new album High As Hope, like her book of lyrics and poems Useless Magic, is a must for all Hermits, for it is a siren’s call to dig into our own darkness and mystery.

It’s filled with powerful imagery of longing, a weariness of life, and ultimately faith, belief and grace—all markings of The Hermit’s path.

Florence, a Virgo, clearly has mystical influences in her work.

My sense of her is that her music is her “religion”, and like The Hermit she is a very private person.

Yet, one who doesn’t mind going it alone–in a powerful way. By sharing her music with others, she becomes a Hermit-like guide, a musical lantern inspiring us on our own journeys.

Those lucky enough to experience one of her concerts, often describe them as a mystical experience!

Embrace The Hermit Tarot Style…

If you haven’t already, take a look at the video of Florence’s Big Love by Autumn DeWilde, to see some powerful Hermit fashion. Think fluid, drapery fabrics that both cover and reveal at the same time.

Hermit style also celebrates the power of a good hood!

Hoods were prevalent on many Fall season runways; combine it with a cape and you’re in-Hermit-vogue.

Austere Hermit’s are not big on frivolous accessories, the right purse, however, is extremely important! Hermits, like Virgos, are always prepared for any emergency, and a great bag is the best defense. Nothing large, just something to carry a few aspirin, tissues, and perhaps a talisman and some magical herbs.

From Mango .com…

A small draw-string bag like this one from Mango.com works great, or the latest trend—a shoulder-fanny bag— is the perfect accessory for the practical Hermit.
