Pluto In Space…
Pluto is a small but powerful planet that represents purging, psychoanalysis of the unconscious mind and transformation of rotten feelings, like jealousy, into more positive energies.
It is linked to birth, death and rebirth, and is intense, obsessive and perceptive.
In our chart it can show us where we’re likely to feel violated, then empowered through transformation, likened to the Phoenix rising from the dead.

Pluto Themes
Transformation, death and rebirth, renewal, restoration…
Pluto is the whole of the collective underworld and with these themes prevalent, it confronts some pretty raw instincts within us, for example survival and power, life and death. These in turn throw up issues of money, sex, obsession, taboos, and feelings of being violated.
William Shakespeare, A Midsummer Night’s Dream
Of course, Shakespeare wasn’t referring to planet Pluto in the quote above – but he could’ve been!
After all, Pluto is known as a dwarf planet and only very, very small. However, it carries fierce connotations.
In our natal chart, the position of Pluto can point to where we feel consumed and can’t let go – perhaps we don’t want to let go…
It is pain and it is rage.
In our charts it is where we might be scared or feel anxiety and anticipation, as if we’re about to be violated…
All of the constellations in the zodiac are ruled by one of the planets, and Pluto, with Mars, takes charge of Scorpio. This means that those born with Scorpio rising or the Sun in Scorpio will often identify with the themes of Pluto – transformation and regeneration, intensity and power.
What are the other themes of Pluto?
Pluto is intense, obsessive, powerful and compulsive. When these traits are present in life or a relationship you can bet Pluto has something to do with it! This energy can be controlling and power obsessed.
A Pluto transit can mark a time to clean out the crap, change what you are and what’s around you. This might be noted as a simple restoration project or regeneration of an area in life, or it could be a complete transformation. And of course there is pain in transformation, death and (re)birth.
Fashion For Your Pluto Transit?
From our perspective here on earth, each constellation of stars forms a backdrop to the planet Pluto, so it would appear that ‘Pluto is in the constellation of Sagittarius’ when we look up to the night sky, for example.
Pluto takes a long time to work its way around the zodiac – about 249 years! This planet spends between 12 and 31 years in each of the star signs and moves through some signs quicker than others.
Because Pluto is relatively slow, the effect can be described as generational, the population collectively shares the sign for more than a decade.
With so many people sharing the same ‘sign’ over this time period, astrologers look at the house that the planet sits in, and the aspects it makes to other planets in the chart.
Right now, Pluto is in Capricorn.
