The Valentino 2013 Couture show was truly a cosmic wonder.
It featured lashings of zodiac jewellery and a range of mother-of-pearl minaudières, with jeweled golden clasps cast in the shape of signs of the zodiac (as seen held by the model above).
The astrological referencing hails from ancient Rome, and also the Renaissance Era.
At Valentino, there is a legacy of a grand Romanesque style transcending the collections, and this collection also held a nod to Renaissance Europe. Cabinets of Curiosities, Cabinets of Wonder, Wonder Rooms or “Wunderkammer” was a theme honoured throughout, these were collections typically belonging to rulers and aristocrats that comprised of precious objects – some religious artefacts, historical relics, works of art and antiquities, natural wonders, geological, archaeological oddities and more.
